I am working currently on anew series of drawing, about 20 pieces as I imagine. It is based on my family and my ancestors with eastern european nature and landscape in background, some of the first here.

I didn't touch paints in years, beside some small watercolours, anyway like very quick ones. having a bit of time on my hands I tried to paint a copy of Camille Pissarro painting The Boulevard Montmartre in goal to get familiar with mixing colours and the whole acrylic paint deal. I had done over 17 oils back in school days in poland and lots of tempera in a class room. I must to say that it was only about three days, or afternoons I spent on it, but I really enjoyed and looking forward to do next painting, more based on my own art.

I haven't posted anything in long time. Today some sketches from last few weeks, and some from the kendo when I went with my son. Resolution for the new year is to actually concentrate more on the drawing, the anything else. I think it is the thing I mostly feel good with, and brings me most of happiness and fun whole doing it.

About the project:

This project was born about a year ago, firstly as homage to the musicians of reggae and dub, musical style perfectly combining faith, lifestyle and music into living doctrine. I based the composition on religious icons of Byzantium and Christian faith, and as those I tried to make written portraits of great people. It was a personal project, and went through long stage of development, but mainly was an inspiration to strengthen my visual style of black and white inked drawing known from ‘Born in the East’ series - based on culture and character of East London. On Easter Sunday my and my boy we went to Poland, to spend some time in our countryside house, and get the nice feeling of quiet and simple village life. Get away from london, change the scene, to recharge batteries, during that time I made some quick sketches and tried watercolors I got from my wife for Christmas.

Recent backgrounds I am working on

I am working now on the backgrounds for my Sketchbook film, and also some Japanese-style backgrounds for a group project at school, not much, but still a small progress. Sketchbook is a challenge, since I want to keep my pencil drawing style, but have kind of deep watercolors textures and coloring effect, and basically it is try and error. First three images are for the group project, Basho and the frog haiku - directed by my classmate Virun. The backgrounds are like the whole setting for the film, hope it will work well. I used Photoshop for the Japanese style, for the Sketchbook stuff I am using TVPaint 9.5 for coloring it, and scanned sketch for the lines.

Just sitting today, and as usual I am quite late to get to work on my project for school. I guess never get to realize to the last minute, when I am at work the I forget about the studies, and so on, I haven't been doing much, but some doodles and bit of sketching. I have not use the TVPaint (old Mirage) to animate with my tablet for some time, so this was just a bit of practice I done, also-since Mirage become TvPaint I have been to busy to get around little changes with the software, and get more familiar, So mainly it was the purpose of it, as also to try the Yawn from the animatic, and I think I need to put more emphasis on yawn, sleepiness, and maybe first acted it out few times. Yawwwnnn. so boring.

I have done some changes on the storyboards, thanks to Tim who greatly contributed to the story by highlighting what could be done, it is this kind of critique needed. |Still I want to concentrate more time on what happens after the boy is in India, maybe this is for later. Project is for next summer, so now i have lots of time to think about it, and just draw, lots of drawing, that is what I will do, I hope.

Roman 2009 Stop motion project

Roman is a builder, he lives to build. His battle with the life brings him to a table and a bottle of vodka, when there is vodka, then roman drinks. Roman drinks a lot.
His problem is, more he drinks, then more he likes to stand on his head.
Standing on a head helps Roman to battle with his life, with everything in his life.
When he stands on the head he builds the Golem.
The only thing he doesn't know that he is endless cycle of creation and fall.

I had to rush the project, as I do with most of things. Still I enjoyed the clay part of it, I shoot at 12 fps, still the effect is quit amazing, taking to account the animation and movement is very limited sometimes. Hope to get some comments.

Roman - homo sovieticus.

Finally when the time is running out I am sitting here and working on my project for stop-motion module, I must to say I need to get more organized to plan my free time more creatively, I always get distracted and loose my time when I could do something. New Year resolution - make plan for every week, month, day. Do not loose time. Happy New Year everyone. Some takes for the Roman project as in animatic somewhere below, I am cutting corners - yes to save on time, but the mies en scene looks all-right I believe.

To explain the 'homo sovieticus' it is mean to be an description of people in Poland back in the 89 when the communism has fallen, and the generations who lived while under communism would be refereed to as 'hs' in a way it was meant to help explain 'certain' differences - to what I ask, anyway roman who is ann inspiration fro this short have some of this qualities. Film would also incorporate some feelings of past Poland era.

Playing with maya

Following Steve Roberts book, I made some bouncing balls in Maya. Some time ago it would be really difficult to get around the interface of this program, now it feels more easier for me. Actually Steve explanation is as alway very good and straightforward, only problem so far was the graph editor. Anyway here are some balls in 3d.

this is for a project at uni, got slashed at the crit, it sounds like my aproach to makin movies is far from the general trend, i don't seem to bring that what people like to see, when I think it is a nice calm story, I get remarks of child laubor beeing inflicted in the piece, anyway it is a start. i just wanted to get over with this course, I am not a salesmen, and if I can make movies for myself only I am still happy with it. Sure still more development is needed, and the time when the boy goes into imaginary world needs more punch, and time.

Strugle-open source

I made this clip today on a Pencil open source animation program, problem witrh it on windows and linux,( ubuntu here) is it only can export image sequence, but I found Kdenlive - great video editor which can put the frame into sequence and export them to movie. I always had problems with exporting the movie on linux, even now the sound is actually not working properly, but I am sure it is only matter of the hardware.

I am so much trouble lately, I thought I can manage Ma, and it sounds like with work, and my own life and kids, and all, I am just a lost person, and can not manage to do all at the same time. So I admitted. So anyway, carry on, lets the ball roll, we see what would come next. for now some storyboards, for an stop-motion idea out of clay, and some sketches. The point is I never want to sell anything, so maybe it is the problem, and there are better skilled people out there. So there is the story of a Roman, it is his name, and he builds and seeks...

This is rather a horrible walk, but it is a quick one before leaving for work, the puppet is made in 2005 and now I realized iI had problems with the joints because of the way it is drawn, I am planning on making another one of those. Now just testing the set -up of the camera and lights etc. It is mor of a dance - jig, then a walk...

Also the rest of the strange aluminum frame, plus other bits created perfect lighting rail, to make me more happy I manage to find out how to set up custom white balance with the software I am using, shame, it is bit late, couse I spent tenner on daylight bulbs, anyway the whole thing just come together.

What a day, I been thinking how to mount my camera to an old enlarger stand (thanks Steve), I had an old tripod head I could use, but there was still missing the bit to connect it. I went to recycle bins empty our weekly recyclables behind the building, and what I see ? Some kind of furniture elements, kind of pipes with bolts in it , just perfect size and the bolts are just in right place to mount to the stand, perfect size for the tripod head also. It is a god sent elements, it would serve me as stopmotion camera and a lintester with nice quality shots, forget the webcam. ;-)

Today I was trying my canon camera with live view - to use it for stop motion, and it works great, results below, the only problem is - still need to mount it to something - if I am thinking to shot from above, got some ideas, need some tools and materials, maybe trip to b&q over the weekend. So far worked out the software, and got all the cables.

Anyway for now just a bunch of pencils...

This is a quick lip sync I done for my friends contemporary movie with the live soundtrack, it was like a morning job, even some frame are doubled, but what they say I think is just funny, also they are our co-workers. Movie was about he Theatre, like about our Hackney Empire - which is going to close soon and we all be redundant in January, so not looking forward so much to the hey year, he he - only joking. QUIETLY cool, the upper gallery of the Marie Lloyd bar is the perfect place for Polish illustrator,

Michal Konstantynowicz’s solo show, being the local centre of his inspiration. Born in the East is

a collection of stark, highly detailed ink illustrations, which draw on many aspects of East London.

Large and black and white, they are sensitively rugged, reinforcing the edginess of the east. Familiar

Hackney sights jump out at you, from the number 38 bus, to the front of the Empire. Yet the more

you look, the more you see, with little ghouls peeping out of bus windows, and sitting formally in the

theatre. Why is this, you wonder? Is it the ghost of the Hackney Empire? This quirk gives the images

a comedy foreboding and seems to set Michal’s signature style; keeping it real, with a sense of

humour. An impressive caricature of Sid Vicious sits alongside the everyday image of a leering Staffordshire

bull terrier and young owner. Turning this look into art is clever; illustratorjournalism. Even

the bar manager of the Marie Lloyd is featured in his own caricature, as relevant as the actors also

pictured.

Michal creatively construes the ‘everyday’, and shows we can get pleasure in seeing it reflected in

ink. If this is the first time you have seen Michal’s work, you’ll be sure to always recognise it afterwards.

Saturday was a one of this nights when there is no customers at the bar, or was it not? Not really but for most of the time it was only 2 no more people drinking, so I have made a sketch. Before and after it was mad busy, since in theater we had new act of the year - stand up comedy night, and all this people going to see it like theirs drinks...bloody stoke newington crowd. Spoiled over thirties - brats.

I have been trying to make this kind a break-dance turn, just for bit of practice, but at some point it looks like he goese opposite way and then back, it wasn't greatly planned, I just been playing with mirage on a tablet pc, the timing is terrible...but I quite like the little chap.
Just realize I exported him as it was drawn -on 1s, so actually it would go slower if I have exported it on 2s, I may just do that later.

I started BA Digital Media at Londonmet - i had some roughh days, had to leav a job, find some part time work, and etc, It was a very hard few weeks - but all sounds good now. We have a principles of animation as a module - so it will make me to do some stuuf, this is W changing to some living thing, it was ment to be 5 frames - but I wanted more of animation, then transition.

Just last two weeks I spent as a part of a Jury at Crown court in snaresbrook, it was quite interesting and a good break from work, I made a sketch of the court and a memory portrait of an defendant we thought was not guilty, but the poor man dissapeared,so there was no verdict, also since sometimes it was a long wait I did this straight ahead speed animated character so enjoy...

...lately I felt I have nothing to post - so I decided I would go away from posting only things connected with animation, and I will be posting things i think are worth to show, designs i am working on, or a photos I have taken, to make this blog lively, for this post is some designs I have done last month for a international simcard, generally I started from scratch and created everything from the logo to the branding image in a 3 weeks , those pictures aren't the final ones, but its close,juggling this project together with my other duties at work was quite a challenge, but i think the effect are nice, it was first time I was doing branding of something - not really my thing corporate image, it was good to get away from the stock image and create something from ad drawing into the illustration.

Just feel like lately I don't have a time to do anything, been doing some extra work and then find myself being to busy not even having time to go out with my kid, hate that...
So no posts no drawing nothing, just a silly low budget commercial , and another one I have to do over weekend to get some extra bucks, realized I would need to learn AE to be able to do things like those easy and with effects...
another thing was interesting i got asked by one person i know to do some inserts for a documentary about BULDOG who are a polish massive music formation, and the project was interesting , but also couldn't really do as much as i like to because of lack of time, wondering what would be outcome of it after the guy fdo a final edit...anyway glad to take part of it, the leading singer was my youth time hero..so it's cool, beside that i am full of daubs about everything lately..and thinking of joining some university so i can learn something more..hungry for knowledge..hope it would work out...bla bla bla..bucket of shit as one Portuguese guy use to say...

So I am back now, it is about 2 weeks since I am in London town, and i have to say first week it was like a shock getting use to it it again, brr..trains etc..
Beeing in Japan I always praise that everything around works, and quality of food is just amazing, those people know whats good for them, I dont feel they do compromise us much as europeans...chicken is a chicken, egg is an egg, ..organic ? maybe...
So few sketches from that time, did not have much time realy, been working on some
low budget TV commercial while there and when I am back..nothing to be proud off, and then work, work..
Yes the Tanabata project is still on, see how the time, life goes..
Nice to see new faces vistiting this God forgotten blog..So until next post

I am thinking about making short story over my holidays, I dont know yet what technique, it could be flash or mirage, something I can do anywhere.
Some characters I made today for this story, it is a old japanese tale, I like to simplyfy the story and hopefully turn it into nice short positive animation.

No horrible animation on this weekend, weekend is over and tommorow another week of work. Quite excited since it is only about two weeks until christmass, and our flight on christmass eve , for the first time in five years I would not be working on new years eve. Great - and Yes no exact plans yet, but I will celebrate NY eve in Japan!
This weekend I only manage to do some characters based on Alice in Wonderland and my family in Ilustrator, it took me some time actually, so see ..

Usually at work I do use Ilustrator for adverts, it is quite boring sometiomes, repeating same things over and over, so its nice to o create something diffrent and more fun.
Anyway till later!

Hi, Oy! Wes you give me some thinking - asking the question, well what do I want to get out of it, I don't know.. do I, doing this doodles, maybe not trying to show the best of.. hm.. I just enjoy it..today I spent two hours doing it and in meant time watched over my baby daughter.. maybe it is not great, still having something done gives me some satisfaction. So watch it the ; The things they say II. - Minimalistic approach towards the moving lines...or animation...if we can call it this name.

finally got some time and will to try to animate something, I didn't have idea what to do so it was just go ahead and see what happens, just for the sake of practice,
so the volume and shape does change and there as usual is not much of a story...but it is rough and natural, hope it would lead to more and more practice, because I would like to continue the adventure with animation

the start isn't great but there is improvement as it goes, thats my opinion

Return of the Blob

The blue blob is back, as I say full of enthusiastic thoughts, I am back and I want this blog to become alive, for all people out there who like other stuff then mine, I am not giving up.
Seriously I was busy , really just shortly after leaving CSM I got employed as a graphic designer at company in London, and I am really happy having my daytime job- it is great, weekends off, and being in the place where they treat you nice, cool...
So I am back at the animation, haven't done much since leaving the school, but when, no time really, full time job , kids and all.
So it is my first try at getting back at it- and I am positively surprised ,yes it is moving, ha,ha,ha, for all out there waiting to get the job of a life time, I am happy earning fewer bucks ,but be free and do what I like to do when I do...and hope I would do more my animations, so this BLOB is done in Mirage, nice and quick, and it works.
Have a look...Blob is not Dead as said Johnny Rotten long time ago...or whoever said that....

This is the final project created at CSM, inspiration was a painting from National Gallery in London, I wanted to keep it traditional, as a message and the art form it self. Great painting, I tried keep the mood and the color scheme and the Gothic feel.

This rotoscoped movie was made for a competition by Cobravision and ITV, there was so many changes along the way and this is the final kind of a version.
It was interested for me how in our CCTV world culture , people are actually likely to watch programs such Big Brother, and if the would watch someone eating, drinking and brushing teeth without the 'dirty' bits supplied by programs such as BB.

This short movie was my first try at making an animated movie, withe the use of Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator. It was created at Hackney Community College in London.
It is not really animation, but I was so glad to transform my traditional skills into digital media, as I believe I am a digital convert, in times when I have finished my school in Poland there was no computer work room and it is just few recent years whenI got into digital.
